New Haven Homeless
I Am - The Monitor
New Haven is now doing the right thing too.
Every Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm, for the past four years, Trinity Church on the Green has been holding a worship service called "Chapel on the Green". As the name suggests, these services are held quite literally outside, right on the New Haven Green behind Trinity Church. After the services, volunteers distribute donated food and clothing to anyone in need. Anyone. No questions asked, and attendance at the services is not required.
Everyone is of course welcome, but the primary purpose is to minister to the homeless who otherwise, for obvious reasons, may not wish to attend the customary services held inside the church. Hats off to Trinity Church and to everyone else involved for volunteering their time and their resources.
Here's a link to a recent article that appeared in the New Haven Register showing the good work being done by Trinity Church through the "Chapel on the Green" ministry.
We just completed another feature story for radio station WSHU that aired on 1-28-13). This time the story covered the homeless in Bridgeport.
